Description
I'm turning 38. I turned 20 in 2008. So for six hours, we're reopening the year.
Facebook looked like this. Every photo had flash and red-eye. “Low” was unavoidable. Eighteen years later, we're doing it again, this time with a rooftop, BBQ, and children we are somehow responsible for.
3–6 PM: Family BBQ on the roof
6–9 PM: Same party, increasingly 2008
Kids are welcome the whole time. Apparently we have those now. Come whenever, stay as long as you want, and no gifts. No costume required. Surviving 2008 clothing encouraged.
Just RSVP so we know how much food and how many juice boxes to buy.
A Quick 2008 Reorientation
In case the last 18 years went by a little fast:
- Music
- The No. 1 song of the year was “Low” by Flo Rida featuring T-Pain.
- Language
- “Bailout” was word of the year. Great energy.
- Tech
- The iPhone 3G and App Store launched. The store opened with more than 500 apps.
- Internet
- America's fastest-rising searches included Obama, Facebook, iPhone and YouTube.
- Super Bowl
- The most-replayed commercial was the E-Trade baby talking about stocks, then throwing up.
- Christmas
- The toy list included Bakugan, Elmo Live and a Hannah Montana guitar.
- Fashion
- According to the evidence: graphic tees, colored sunglasses, backward hats and ties with no identifiable purpose.
We're going back for six hours. Please behave accordingly.
